A little bit dotty

While in Soho, I made a pilgrimage to my favourite store, Dosa. Their clothes are entirely hand-stitched and breathtaking (also breathtakingly expensive). Several of their garments were sprinkled with hand-sewn circles. Inspired, I decided to sew my own little bit of whimsy.

Dottie yellow close-up

Dottie high
I pulled out my scraps bag (finally, a use for them).

Dottie horizontal
The background is white and seafoam linen from a skirt I took in, and the yellow circles are bits of Anna Maria Horner voile.

Dottie close-up
I like the wonky little stitches.

Dottie yellow on
I don't know how much I will wear this. It's a tad bit odd, isn't it? I don't have many things in my wardrobe that will go with it. And I'm afraid the white background makes it look like a bandage. Perhaps I'll make a more subdued version for winter. I'm thinking charcoal, black, plum with a little bit of acid green thrown into the mix. I'd also love to make one with a mix of Liberty of London tana lawn.

Anyway, it was great fun to make!

What about adding lace or gathered ribbon edge to take away the bandagey look?

What about making it a cuff on a sweater? Overlaying it on a sleeve? It's lovely!

I've grown slowly to love this mustardy colour. Your little circles look like beach treasure, or a llittle collection of precious buttons. Lovely.

I think it's lovely too, maybe making it narrower would make it look less like a bandage?
I am going to try to make one myself.

It's lovely!
I love those uneven shapes and stitches, so charming.
If you think it looks too much like a bandage, you could make a more obvious closure.

Oh no, not like a bandage at all, it's really beautiful, I love how the colours look against the pale background.

It's adorable and doesn't look like a bandage. I think it's a great springboard to move into added some circles on to another garment.

It's so pretty and delicate! I love the whole idea and the fact that you've been inspired by those beautiful clothes to create your own version. That yellow is lovely too. I don't think it's at all bandagey either...You have impeccable taste as usual!

That's gorgeous. I don't think it looks like a bandage, either. The yellow tones are very sweet - very summer. What about making it into a headband?
