What a coincidence - I've been listening to Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights all day! It's one of my favorite songs and stories ever. The trailer seems to have captured the roughness/fragility of the novel quite well!
Oooh, exciting. Can never have too much Wuthering Heights. Recently watched the Masterpiece Theater version which was great but did leave something to be desired. It was very hard to love the adult Heathcliff but then again, maybe that's the point.
I've never quite connected with Wuthering Heights -- too much passion and wildness for me. I find it hard to imagine a human heart so capable of cruelty as well as love.
On the topic of period dramas that aren't run of the mill, though -- have you seen Angels and Insects? I recommend it, both for its stunning visuals and unique feel. Disturbing.
The film was made here in the Yorkshire Dales in Swaledale near the village of Keld. The film crew stayed in my friends holiday let next door but one. It was quite exciting to hear all the local gossip while the film crew was staying in the village (Hawes) and using the cafe where I worked as a base. They used local joiners and builders and some of the locals were used as extras. I must admit I saw the film on the TV at Christmas and thought it was very dark and brooding but reflected what it must have been like living up here way back then (very wild windy and wet).
